In 1997 when his workplace location moved 400 miles away, Sam thought the daily commute was a little too long, so at the tender age of 48 he decided he both had enough and had had enough (of work), and declared himself self-unemployed thus giving time and space for enjoying motorcycles. In 2000, Sam invested funding for purchase of a motorcycle related company which would be run by a business partner. The partner was not successful. At the end of 2004, Sam took over control of the company and regretably went back to the daily grind. But the company survived and thrived, becoming the largest of its kind in the country. Eleven years later the company was sold and this time for Sam it was a formal retirement. |
